Director, Resource Strategy and Development Movement for Black Lives
Chances are that sometime recently, someone on your communication or fundraising team has asked about “diversifying your audience/donor base.” But what does it actually mean? Reaching a wide range of demographics is important, but if you haven’t thought about why you’re trying to reach them, your approach can be generic and ineffective at best and tokenizing at worst.
Rather than starting with broad platitudes, it’s important to take a step back and understand what diversity in your audience really means. In this session, we’ll share with you tactics to expand your reach through collaboration with program and organizational leadership with authenticity. We’ll also walk you through an exercise to determine your goals and work toward accomplishing them. And we’ll share a nonprofit professional’s perspective on implementing this model.
Learning Objectives:
Understand what audience diversity means to your organizational goals
Grasp of tools and tactics necessary to diversify your audiences
Develop a solid understanding of why you are attempting to reach your audience to develop a more meaningful plan for engagement
